Friends of the Inman River

Friends of the Inman River is a passionate community initiative founded in June 2023 under the Rotary Victor Harbor umbrella. Our mission is to protect and rejuvenate the natural habitat surrounding the Inman River for the benefit of our local environment and wildlife.

The Inman River had previously been a focus of the South Coast Environment Centre. However, when the centre closed due to funding challenges, a gap was left in the care and management of this vital ecosystem. We stepped in to fill that gap, bringing together like-minded volunteers who share a deep commitment to preserving our region’s natural beauty.

We meet twice a month, working hands-on to remove invasive weeds such as olives, buckthorn, boxthorn, watsonia, African daisy, and fennel from key areas like Bruce Reserve and Inman Reserve near Almond Avenue. Our efforts have been rewarding—we’ve successfully cleared significant portions of invasive species and have planted hundreds of endemic trees and understory shrubs. These plantings aim to restore the natural ecosystem and support local wildlife, including the endangered black-chinned honeyeater, which relies on these habitats to thrive.

If you share our love for the environment and want to make a real difference while enjoying a sense of community, we’d love to hear from you! Call us at 0418 855 487 or connect with us on Facebook to learn more or get involved.
